Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a relaxing and stimulating treatment for the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and face. Based on the ancient Ayurvedic holistic healing system, it has been practised in India for over a thousand years where it remains an important part of modern life.
Our modern lives are stressful with little time to look after ourselves properly. Indian Head Massage is especially effective in relieving many of the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of stress. It works deeply to ease the physical tension in the shoulders and neck that is often caused by stress. Head massage also eases headaches and migraines, improves clarity of thought, increases vitality, and lifts and calms emotionally.
By stimulating the blood flow to the scalp, head massage encourages the distribution of nutrients and oxygen to the whole body as well as improving the condition of the hair and promoting hair growth. It also benefits lymphatic drainage thus encouraging the removal of toxins from the body.

Swedish Body Massage
Flexibility
Massage helps to increase flexibility, restoring full range of movement to joints. Posture improves as well. Once you have regained this flexibility, regular massage will help to maintain it.
Faster Recovery
Massage helps remove waste products from the muscles by increasing venous return. The arterial supply also increases, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, helping to repair damaged tissue.
Relief from Long-Term Problems
Muscle problems may be present for months before you feel discomfort. For example, long periods in front of a computer can cause a build-up of scar tissue, leading to shoulder and neck pain. Massage plus corrective exercises can help considerably.
Facts
Massage improves the blood circulation in several ways without putting additional strain on the heart. It helps the flow of blood through the veins and also stimulates the nerves which control the blood vessels. It has the added benefit of relaxing tense muscles and tight connective tissues which may have been constricting blood vessels and thus enable blood to flow more freely. It is for this reason that soothing massage helps reduce emotional tension; it induces relaxation and calms stress-related cardio-vascular conditions.
Massage Therapy and Stress Management
The mind, which before massage is in a perturbed, restless, vacillating and -even despondent state, becomes after massage, calm, quiet, peaceful and subdued; in fact, the wearied and worried mind has been converted into a mind restful, placid, and refreshed.
Hopi Ear Candles
A natural and relaxing therapy used traditionally by the Hopi Indians. This treatment is excellent for anyone who suffers with excess wax in the ears, sinusitis or general blocked sinuses. The treatment is completely painless and actually very relaxing. Also helpful in treating headaches, migraines, head colds, catarrh, glue ear and hay fever. Please note this is a gentle holistic treatment that is best when used regularly and may not be effective immediately for deteriorated conditions.
Ear Candles are excellent in the treatment of ear, nose and throat problems such as.
How they work:
The process is extremely relaxing and soothing. A Hopi ear candle normally burns for 10-12 minutes. Heat from the candle helps to stimulate the peripheral blood circulation which in turn boosts the immune system and reinforces lymphatic drainage. After the candle is extinguished, an ear, scalp and facial massage is carried out which further aids blood/lymph circulation and assists in draining the sinus tubes. The candles create a mild suction within the ear canal which helps to draw out impurities as well as balancing any pressure in the head/sinuses and ears. This chimney effect, together with the movement and heat of the flame, helps to create a vibration of air within the ear canal which subsequently gently massages the ear drum. Furthermore, the essential oils and herbs within the candle help to soothe any irritated areas, for example, dry skin or eczema within the ear canal.
General Benefits:
Relieving blocked sinuses, Relief from Catarrh, ear and sinus irritations, Regulating ear pressure, Improving hearing smell and taste Stimulating local blood and lymph circulation, Improved mental clarity, Stress relief
About the candles
The cylindrical candles are about 22cm long and 0.5cm in diameter, and are hollow. They each contain a filter which prevents residues from the candle entering the ear.
Natural ingredients are used to produce the ear candles which include 100% pure beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St John's Wort, Chamomile, Beta-Carotene and organically grown flax.
Note: Hopi Ear Candles should not be used in the following instances:
If the ear drum is perforated, The outer ear is inflamed or infected, Any drainage device is in place in the ear, If the client is allergic to any of the ingredients of the candle, If the client is under specific medical supervision, If a course of antibiotics or other medication is being followed. If major dental work has left the face and jaw sore.
Nail Extensions
Nail extensions have grown vastly in popularity in recent years, which has arisen from women wanting to look their best, with nails playing a large part in women’s regular beauty routines. There are two basic types of nail extension system available - acrylic and gel. Acrylic systems are based on acrylic (i.e. plastic) and they come in either powder, liquid or gel form. Acrylic nails in the powder form are currently the most popular system in the UK at the moment, because they were introduced first into the marketplace, and have been around longer.
The basic procedure for producing a set of beautiful nail extensions for both systems is similar – a plastic tip is glued directly onto the natural nail, and then either acrylic or gel is applied over both the tip and the natural nail (in many cases the material is “sulputured” in a certain way to provide extra strength to the nails). The acrylic or gel is sealed to the natural nail and grows with the nails, which means that, to maintain a set of healthy, beautiful extensions, requires regular visits to the salon in order to “infill” the exposed part of the natural nail with the gel or acrylic.
Being a nail technician requires certain specialist skills. Nail technicians learn about every different type of nails, including the anatomy, nail diseases and common ailments, nail and salon hygiene, and a detailed knowledge of the products used to produce a set of extensions. These skills are vital in order to provide the best advice and service, as everyone is individual in their needs. At MARYLIPPE, prior to serving clients, our nail technician undergo detailed training in all of these areas, in addition to the comprehensive beauty therapy training that all of our staff have already undertaken. This ensures that we provide the excellent service that our clients demand and expect.
We see nail extensions as a long term investment – the initial investment up front for the extensions can last for years if the client visits the salon for regular maintenance.
After all this, you may ask what are the downsides of wearing nail extensions? Nail extensions often receive bad press regarding how damaging they are to natural nails. Again, any damage to natural nails will depend upon what nail extension system has been used and the skill of the nail technician applying the extensions. Most systems should not cause any lasting damage to natural nails. It is a myth that you must have a rest from extensions to allow your natural nails to “breathe” – there is no reason why you can’t wear extensions permanently if you want to.
Wearing nail extensions protects and covers your natural nails. Nails require certain proteins to harden them and give them strength. When you are wearing nail extensions, your natural nails need less protein so your body adjusts to the extensions. When extensions are removed after a period of time, your natural nails will not be as strong as they were prior to the extensions being applied, because your body has not been providing them with the proteins that they require for strength. This causes the natural nails to be bendy and often weak just after removal. This is only a temporary situation and your nails will return to full strength over time. However, it is important during this delicate period to be especially careful with your nails to ensure that no damage is caused. We recommend visiting the salon weekly for manicures, or using a good quality strengthener and cuticle oil at home to promote growth and ensure that your nails remain healthy and strong.
If however there is anything further you would like to know, please do not hesitate to contact a therapist at MARYLIPPE.
